Classic Cocktails

Dirty Vodka Martini
from Shapley’s Restaurant, Ridgeland

1 1/2 ounces vodka such as Ketel One
1/2 ounce of olive juice

Fill a tin with ice. Add vodka and olive juice and shake for at least six seconds, until the tin ices over. Strain into a chilled frosted martini glass. Garnish with olives.

 

 

 

 

 

Dirty Martini
from Vince’s, Leland

1 1/2 ounces gin such as Bombay Sapphire
1/2 ounce of dry vermouth
1/2 ounce of olive juice

Fill a tin with ice. Add gin, vermouth and olive juice and shake for at least six seconds, until the tin ices over. Strain into a chilled frosted martini or rocks glass. Garnish with olives.

 

 

 

 

 

Manhattan
from City Grocery, Oxford

1 1/2 ounces bourbon
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes bitters

Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, strain into a martini glass and garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Raspberry Stockholm  75
from Little Tokyo, Ridgeland

1/2 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
(juice from 3 lemon wedges)
1/2 teaspoon simple syrup
1 1/2 ounces vodka 
1 ounce Chambord
Champagne

Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne and serve with a lemon twist.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Old Fashioned
from Vince’s, Leland

Orange slices and Maraschino cherries
Dash of grenadine (less than 1/2 ounce)
3 to 5  dashes of bitters
2 to 3 ounces bourbon such as Maker’s Mark
Club soda

In the bottom of a rocks glass, place a Maraschino cherry and an orange slice. Add grenadine and bitters and then muddle. Fill the glass with ice. Add bourbon and top with club soda. Garnish with another cherry and orange slice. 

 

 

 

 

French 75
from Snack Bar, Oxford

1 ounce gin such as Tanqueray
Splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice
Splash of simple syrup
Champagne

In a shaker filled with ice, add gin, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake until well chilled and strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.

 

 

 

 

French 76
from Vince’s, Leland

1/4 ounce vodka such as Grey Goose
1/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 ounce Grand Marnier
1/4 ounce simple syrup
Champagne

Fill a mixing tin or shaker with ice. Add all ingredients and shake. Strain into a chilled frosted martini glass. Top with champagne. Garnish with a lime twist. For sugar rim: roll frosted glass in lime juice and dip in granulated sugar.
