Crawdad’s restaurant in Merigold offers a true Delta dining experience –delectable dishes of regional cuisine in a rustic, relaxed atmosphere. Established in 1984, Crawdad’s successes have flourished, even as it withstood a massive fire in January 2002 that left the original building in ashes. With the help of its loyal supporters, Crawdad’s was rebuilt and stands firm in downtown Merigold.

The menu has evolved over the years to offer more than boiled crawfish. Crawdad’s now offers many seafood dishes with a secret “comeback sauce,” steaks on the grill and a selection of Cajun/Creole dishes such as jambalaya and ettouffee.

One popular steak entrée keeps customers coming back: the “Mayor’s Filet” –a mouthwatering 10- to 12-ounce filet served over a grilled portabello mushroom with sides of garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed sugar snap peas and Texas toast. The dish was named for Crawdad’s owner, Mayor Andrew Westerfield, who frequently grabs a seat near the kitchen with his wife, Kim, and enjoys his namesake dish.

Crawdad’s employees attest to the popularity of the dish. “Our customers love it, and it’s definitely the mayor’s favorite,” says Assistant Manager Tripp Hobbs. “I don’t order it because I can’t eat it all!”

Crawdad’s is located in downtown Merigold, MS off Highway 61 and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6pm to 10pm. Call 662-748-2441 for reservations. Visit www.crawdads1.com for more information.
